Wedding Veils Explained

The wedding veil is a must-have accessory for any bride to be. The veil adds a sense of mystery and romance to your bridal look. Wedding veils have been a traditional choice for many brides, and they also make your photographs look amazing and extra special.

At Richard Designs we have a gorgeous selection of wedding veils. They are the perfect accessory to transform you into the ultimate bride on your special day. From botanical lace veils, veils with a touch of sparkle or a pretty pearl scatter, we have the style you are searching for. When picking the perfect veil, you should consider the length, scatter layout and how you position the veil in your hair. Take a look at our top tips to achieve the perfect wedding day look.

What are the different types of scatter veils?

Scatter veils are a must-have for brides every season. They add a little sparkle or detail to a plain tulle veil. At Richard Designs we have a wide variety of scatter veils, including a dainty pearl scatter and a sparkling crystal scatter. See our scatter guide illustration above on the variety of scatters we offer. These include a 2.5″, 5″, 10″ and graduated scatter; something for every bride. We can customise your veil order to all our available scatter layouts.

Single Tier Veils

At Richard Designs, we have single tier, double tier, and Mantilla style veils to pick from. Single tier veils are perfect if you want a minimalist look and are available in a variety of lengths. See our veil size guide above to show our available lengths for a single tier veil. These are measured from the comb at the top, to the bottom edge of the veil.

Two Tier Veils

Our two tier veils are made up of two layers, a longer underlayer and a shorter top layer called the blusher. They are measured from the bottom of the blusher to the bottom edge of the underlayer. The blusher can be worn at the back or brought down over your face for the traditional blushing bride look.

Prices of single and two tier veils vary depending on how much decoration is on the second tier. Often, a two-tier veil will have a higher cost, as more time and materials are required to make it.

How do you put in a veil?

It is important to put your veil in correctly to ensure it hangs beautifully and stays in place on your special day. The veil is the perfect accessory to transform you into the ultimate bride. The comb needs to be securely pushed into the hair to ensure the veil stays in place all day long. A veil can be worn with your hair up or down, you just need to ensure you have selected a good placement and the curve of the comb is sitting snug to your head.

Pick up your selected veil and ensure the comb of the veil is at the top and facing downwards towards the floor. The comb is curved to fit flush, comfortably to the head. Check the comb is behind the veil when you hold it up. For an up-do, the veil should be just under or over the desired hairstyle, depending on your styling preference. Hair worn down will have the veil positioned towards the top of head to ensure it is secure and comfortably stays in place. The higher you wear your veil on your head, the more volume it will have.

After deciding on your placement, push the comb into your hairstyle with the curved edge flush to your head. Ensure the comb is pushed into your hairstyle to create a secure veil placement that will last all day and night. Style the veil by pulling it forward slightly over the shoulders. The veil can be flipped over your face if it has a blusher when you walk down the aisle. Fluff the back of the veil to arrange the train perfectly, you may need your bridesmaids to help with this if you have a long train.
