Winter wedding season is well and truly upon us and there’s nothing more heartwarming than watching the happy couple say ‘I do’ under the gentle glimmer of fairy lights. The roaring fires, the deep, evergreen foliage and the warming seasonal menu, winter weddings are magical and give us something to look forward to during the colder months. However, it’s not always as simple as throwing on a flowy midi and strappy sandals as we often do during the summer months; winter weddings sometimes take a bit more thought. Here are a few tips and tricks for curating the perfect winter wedding outfit.
If you’re attending a winter wedding, it’s not the time to play it safe with the jewellery. Bold sparkles and rich pearls are just the ticket when it comes to finding the perfect accessories to complement your wintry colour palette. This pearl and crystal necklace strikes the perfect balance of sparkle and shine, giving you a hint of glam that wont overpower your look. The large sparkle drop earrings pair perfectly with an open neckline and an updo, bringing all the attention to your face. The pearl embellished crown is the ultimate accessory for a statement look. combining the hairband trend with the timeless elegance of pearls.
There’s nothing quite like the comforting feeling of a faux fur shrug to throw over your shoulders on a chilly winter wedding day. Equally suitable for bride and guest, these simple shrugs are a great addition to your occasion wear collection. This fitted velvet jacket is a lovely option due to its sleeves offering you extra warmth: lined with the same velvet, it’s super soft while the faux fur adds detail to the cuffs and shawl collar. The luxurious faux fur shrug is the perfect option to pair with a more embellished dress as the cap sleeves and open front cover only your shoulders to keep you warm without covering up your dress. Your little ones are going to absolutely love this cosy fur cape, complete with pom pom ties to keep it secure.
The options are pretty much endless when it comes to picking out a bridal gown for your winter wedding and we believe you should pick your dream dress regardless of whether it’s seasonally appropriate (see above for shrugs!). We love a jersey dress in the winter months: its thickness lends itself well to chillier churches, while its matte, stretchy characteristics make it super comfortable. The Larina dress is a great choice for a winter wedding due to its long sleeve and fitted jersey skirt that hugs your figure. Why not try a bold, alternative look for your winter wedding? With a rich black overlayer softened with its champagne lining, Wednesday brings all the drama. The Ottilie dress is also a great choice due to its intricate lace detailing and stunning open neckline.
When choosing your bridesmaid, mother of the bride and wedding guest dresses, Richard Designs has got you covered: with more than 50 colours to choose from it’s easy to curate your dream wintry palette. Hunter green, navy blue and burgundy make up some of our most popular colours and they come alive during the colder months due to their rich, luxurious hues. In terms of fabrics, we have already discussed jersey but satin also makes for a fabulous winter fabric due to its shine – add in simple satin details such as a waistband or straps to add a touch of shimmer to the look (see RDM1313 and RDM1283). For mother of the bride outfits for winter weddings, we love simple lace details as seen on the Companion Dress, with its smooth, jersey fabric pleated to enhance the figure.
